PestoMix 006: Jon Silva Mixtapes Vol. 10 - Coast 2 Coast

2008 is knocking on our doors, but we don't hear it as the last PestoMix for 2007 is pumping out of our speakers!

We thought it might be a good idea to publish another PestoMix now because 2008 will see a lot more issues of our popular podcast. For the one in January, we are proud to announce that our mate Da Funk of Acryl Music will be our man - between us, this has been overdue and we're really looking forward!

Furthermore, there's a competition running on our Pesto community: visit the board, register for free and post a link to your DJ mix because we're giving out guest slots for the PestoMix series! More details regarding this one can be found on the board and in a detailed news bulletin on this page in brief.

Here's the tracklist for PestoMix 006 (which is also Jon Silva Mixtapes Vol. 10 titled "Coast 2 Coast"). The tunes are a bit of looking to the past, the present and the future and except for three of them, they all were/are/will be released on Pesto or Traxx (which makes us pretty proud, we have to admit):

01. Rucyl - Love In War (Pete Gust's Midnight Vibe) [Pesto 013]
02. Jon Silva - Morning at midnight [PestoLP001]
03. Martin Haberland - Funky Situation (Natasza & Oscarsix Remix) [Pe!Music 007]

Beautiful & Timeless: Featured release on Beatport in two genres!

PestoLP001 aka "Vic Music presents Beautiful & Timeless Vol. 1" seems to be quite popular with the guys at Beatport. They are featuring our release both in the Deep House and Chill Out sections. Needless to say that this massive support results in chart positions in the respective genre charts for a couple of our tunes.

Thank you, Beatport - we love you, too!:)
Yet still, the biggest thank you goes to all the people that buy our music (we love you even more!) and support us.

Cloudsteppers: remix for Acryl Music on Café del Mar compilation

As you might have noticed before, there's is something like a big, international family of House music heads. One of our brothers in this family is Da Funk's Acryl Music from Switzerland - a label we keep supporting because we love the guy and we love the music! Da Funk has already remixed Babak Shayan's Azadi on Pesto 005, contributes to the "2.0" compilation with a massive tune (Electronic Love) and will have a banging release on Traxx in January.

Another brother in music is Vyach, our "Cloudsteppers" guy from Ukraine who's also on "2.0" and he's been doing a remix for Acryl Music. The track in question is "Dig Dis" by Da Funk himself.

The reason we're telling you all this? Well, the Cloudsteppers remix made it onto the ChillHouse edition of the Café Del Mar compilation. And as Cloudsteppers will be releasing an album on Pesto in 2008, we couldn't think of any better promotion for that.

Congratulations to Acryl Music (yes, it's fantastic, indeed!) and to the Cloudsteppers! Well done, guys.

Jon Silva @ Switch, Stockholm

In cooperation with, we're proud to announce the second issue of the "Switch" party series in Stockholm, Sweden. Glad to see all the guys again, especially Esteban whom I expect to drop a track for one of the upcoming compilations.

Quoting from Tribalism's web site:

After the huge success with the first Switch party we are happy to announce the second edition november 30th. No less then the brilliant Jon Silva is headlining the funky house floor. 2 dancefloors, 3 bars of which one is an outdoor tent with heathing system where you can chill to dub and loungemusic.

Jon Silva ( Soda inc, Pesto, Plastic City Cologne, de)
Morg ( Flexible, Gbg)
kenuna (Switch, Music For Girls, Sthlm)
Esteban Nunez (switch)
Niklas Paus ( IDJ Winner 2006)
Amos (Outdoor professor)

"You just keep me hanging on.." kanske klingar bekant.

More compilation mania: "2.0" - The Next Generation Of Pesto Artists

By introducing the second longplayer on Pesto, "2.0 - The Next Generation Of Pesto Artists" you will get a deep insight on the release schedule of next year. We have compiled the finest in Deep House from both rising talents and established artists. You might already know one or another of the 13 tunes from one of the PestoMixes or the Jon Silva Mixtape series, others are brand new and unheard before.

This compilation also marks the beginning of a new period: while 2007 was the stage of the Pesto.Digital project - transforming Pesto from a vinyl label to a digital imprint - with excellent but relatively few releases, 2008 will be the "mother of release fireworks". We have an incredible bunch of talent with outstanding tunes in the pipeline and there are even more to come. We will have more single releases, more remix issues and also more compilations - featuring both exclusive Pesto material and tracks from other labels we partner with.

Back to where we were, here's the track list of "2.0" - just to make you hot for what's coming your way soon. :D

01. Tina Valen - Discotime
02. Rucyl - Love In War (Pete Gust KID Remix)
03. Cloudsteppers - Make Me Shine
04. Quell - Baby Gaps
05. Replika - Loveletter
06. Phonic Funk - On Top
07. Da Funk - Electronic Love
08. Sandra Lima - Higher (The Mulder's Up-A-Dub)
09. Aegean - Jon Silva
10. Robin Rush - Into You (With Pryde Remix)
11. Cooccer - Jam Hot
12. Khaan - Pegasos (The Mulder's XX-File Remixx)
13. Nuance Movement - Violet (Soda Inc. Remix)

We can hear some "yeeaaaah - finally!" from your side of the screen.

More details magically popping up on this page very soon.

Traxx 003: Khaan - Mythos EP

One of Cologne's most wanted DJs is Khaan and we're proud to present his work on our sublabel Traxx Recordings!

After Traxx already got support from the elite of techy DJs (such as Ali Dubfire of Deep Dish, Pako & Frederik of Sitrep and many more), we bring you another pounding release ranging between deep Tech House and pumping Progressive choons. We'll publish more details about the artist "Khaan" and his work (he recently put out a release on the highly acclaimed "Pearldiver" imprint and also made a remix for "From P60" and their "New Way" tune on Pesto 010) on this page within the next few days.

Pesto 010: From P60 - New Way/Be What I Wanna Be

Geez, has this one been long-awaited, but finally, it's there: Budapest's own "From P60" with the voice of Virág finally drop their bomb on Pesto!

The whole EP consists of the tunes "New Way" and "Be What I Wanna Be" and comes with a large bunch of class A remixes. Among the appreciated remixers are top notch names like Nikola Gala, Subsky, JP & Chris Mill, Khaan and Cristian Paduraru. Pesto 010 will have the Nikola Gala and Khaan remixes as well as some more edits by Pesto's Jon Silva.

The release has been split into exclusives for Beatport, Stompy and Traxsource. And while it's already out on Beatport, Nikola Gala's remix was climbing the charts (with a #22 peak position on Beatport's House charts). We'll let you know when you can get the other mixes on Stompy and Traxsource (and only there for the next few weeks).

Part 2 of the mixes will be out in January 2008 including the other remixes - more details here in brief.

Pesto Music drops DRM

Starting with the digital compilation "Vic Music presents: Beautiful & Timeless Vol. 1", we're proud to announce that Pesto Music with all its subsidaries will offer its catalogue free from any DRM restrictions on all platforms that offer a choice regarding DRM, first of all the iTunes Music Store with its iTunes Plus option.

We consider DRM or "Digital Rights Management" first of all a euphemism as it's not managing anything rather than restricting the user (that's you, our buyers and fans) in the way she or he is entitled to use the downloaded music.

Opposed to organizations like the IFPI and similar, we do not consider our clients criminals. File sharing is a reality as much as copying 12" albums on compact cassettes was a reality back in the 1980ies. We're not encouraging you to share your purchased Pesto and Traxx files on filesharing systems (except our FreeBees), but if somebody does, we can't help about it. We rather focus on new music instead of filing lawsuits.

We just think that by putting out great music, supporting our fans with free downloads and other goodies, we will attract the buyers that appreciate our work, people that understand that supporting new and upcoming talents costs some time, money and much more idealism.

Last but not least, we won't increase the prices for the DRM-free titles. :)

Feel free to share your thoughts about DRM in general in our comments' section.

Vic Music presents: Beautiful & Timeless - we're going digital!

It's been long-awaited and this step has been overdue but we finally made it!

Chapter One of the immensely successful CD series will be released as a digital download. We'll offer both the individual tracks (with quite a bunch of unreleased productions such as by Nuance Movement, Soda Inc., Jon Silva and many more) as well as the whole mix.

One tune will be exclsuive to those who buy the full album: "Theme Of Vic Bar" - a tune especially made by Jon Silva & Babak Shayan for the Vic Bar in Cologne.

More details regarding the track list and availability on this page in brief. "Beautiful & Timeless" is brought to you in cooperation with Shayan Music.

A political statement from Jon Silva

This post is especially aimed at german visitors. Nevertheless, the rest of the world should know what's going on here in Germany. I usually try to keep politics off this page, but the latest events made me change my mind regarding this very special case.

As many of you will know, I was born in the eastern part of Germany that was governed by a communist dictatorship until the Berlin wall was teared down in 1989. I was only eight years old when my family escaped from that country for western Germany but my parents made me well aware of the reasons we left our home. We had police officers at home for no reason (or for that reason we wanted to leave or were insisting on our civil rights), we had snitchers living in the same house telling any of our activities to the "Staatssicherheit", the secret service of eastern Germany (comparable to the Gestapo in Nazi Germany). We had our phone connections monitored, mailings opened or "lost", were threatened psychically by those subjects. We finally had our passports confiscated and got new IDs that said we were "stateless" - in other words, our citizenship was taken. Civil rights did not exist in that country and that was the reason why so many people in eastern Germany started huge demonstrations in 1989 - chasing away the dictators by a "soft revolution" and civil disobedience.

Due to my past, I got somewhat allergic to anything or anybody that tries to decrease the amount of civil and/or human rights granted. The first paragraph of the german "Grundgesetz", our constitution, says: "Human dignity is inviolable". The constitution, similar to the "Bill Of Rights" in the USA or other constitutions in your respective country grants this right among many more to you, the citizen of your country. Among those rights granted, you'll also find your right to have privacy and freedom of speech. Without going too much into detail, I will supply you with a couple of links covering the background of data retention below and why it means a severe loss of civil rights.

Data retention on
A short summary on (in english, also available in german, french and italian)

Today, the german parliament accepted a draft bill regarding data retention. They say it's meant to fight terrorism (yeah right - the draft bill also states the use for "illegal" filesharing) but it reaches way far: whistleblowers reporting to journalists will be in danger. That creates an atmosphere of FUD (fear, uncertainty & danger). Imagine you were a witness of how a politician corrupted and have proof - you'd tell a newspaper (media being considered the fourth force in a democratic system). Well, think twice - they'll know who and where you are as they saved your connection and the place you made the call from.

You call me paranoid? Check this out: in 1919, there was a population census in Germany. The government then was a democratic one and they also asked you for your religious views. Some of the german citizens were Jews and checked the respective box - which turned into a tragedy for millions after 1933.

I clearly want to state that ANY decrease of human and civil rights is a desaster. And no, I have nothing to hide but I insist on my civil rights! If possible terrorists wanted to destroy the values of the so-called western world, they were successful - with the help from our politicians. This is just a beginning, what might be next? If we keep on accepting that our basic rights, the human rights people once died for, are constantly taken away from us, we don't have to complain later.

That's the reason you should make yourself heard: write to your representative, attend demonstrations, make the people around you aware of what's happening! We germans already had a generation that said "We did not know that"! If you want to see worst-case scenarios, watch the film "Brazil". And finally, let me quote Benjamin Franklin:

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

I hope you excuse me being so emotional and upset.

Much love & let freedom ring!
Jon Silva aka Jost Gerischer

For our greek friends: interview with Soda Inc. on

Here's an interview that Angel Frank did with Soda Inc. (Jon Silva & Babak Shayan) in Kavala, Greece this summer. Please find the english version below or on Angel's myspace page, the link to the original greek version on is at the bottom of this post.

1) How did you meet and when did you start to produce and dj together as Soda inc.?

Jon: Together we started in 2001 I think. We had been working for the same label, in the same office. We started to work on some remixes, our first track was produced in a few hours and after that we stuck together.

2) Tell me a few things about your 2nd album (Inner Vision). Imagine that I am someone who don't know Soda inc. What am I going to hear?

Jon: After Full Moon (their 1st album) we decided that we should put a new level. Full moon was more instrumental with less vocals, but we love vocals. You know, we listen to pop music and everything that is good so the 2nd album should be less house, less dance, more Soda inc., which is like a mix of different genres. We didn't had something like a plan. We were just sitting together, drinking wine and making tracks and at the same time we were deciding whether the tracks should be part of the album, or not. Babak met some guys from Jamaica and we recorded some stuff, so we put all this stuff together and made our 2nd album.

3) What do you believe about the illegal downloading? Do you think that is going to destroy electronic dance music?

Babak: I think that it is about music in general. It depends on which country we are talking about, because last year I was in Kiev and the people there, download music because they can't do otherwise. I don't think that is going to destroy electronic music especially because in Europe and u.s.a. the people there, buy more digital stuff. So I don't have a problem with it.

Jon: May I add something? Back in the days, when I was in school, everybody was copying Michael Jackson's albums, they putted them in tape, these days in the hard disks, but the people who are really fans of the music will still buy it, because they want to have the real thing, they want to support the artist. So, filesharing has been existing for ages. For me, it's better when someone downloads my tracks. I prefer it from not having them at all.

4) What about myspace? Have you been helped by it, either as djs, or as producers?

Jon: Actually, and I am speaking for both of us, we have met so many talents via myspace, you know people who make music from every corner of the world. I believe that myspace is a very good opportunity for new producers to meet people and spread their music. I also believe that turning a label into a digital label like Pesto music, is a normal consequence, because you meet people who write music from Ukraine, Kiev, and you say 'oh my god there is a talent' and you sign them. And you do that not just because they produce music, but also because you wouldn't had the chance to meet them otherwise. So it's a really good thing actually.

5) What's your best gig so far? Where do you enjoy your sets most?

Babak: I think it's Greece, because we love Greece, we love playing here, the crowd loves our music, which we really appreciate it, because in Germany, the people there are not that much into the music, they are more into the drugs, into techno and they don't give a shit about music. They just go to the club and wait till the drugs start to work. In countries like Greece and also in former east European countries like Serbia the people are into the music and you can feel that. They appreciate what we are doing.

6) What about minimal? What's your opinion about this trend? Does it influence you or just, you know, you don't even bother?

Babak: I'll just say, MINIMAL KILLS MUSIC (laughs)

Do you share the same opinion Jon?

Jon: In general, yes. Every kind of music has bad records and good records, so the most minimal tracks, at least for us, are boring. But there are some good tracks that we use to play and they definitely influence us. The next Soda inc. album won't be a minimal album, but it will include some minimal elements. But even these elements, will have a Soda inc. touch. In general, we are not into the minimal scene.

7) Do you wish to play in some place, where you have never played before?

Babak: There are a lot of places where we want to play, I think that especially u.s.a. is a very big market for our music and I wish we could have a kind of us tour or whatever next year maybe. I also think that in Europe, we would like to play in lots of countries, except Germany! Also in UK we'd love to play. Everywhere, where people loves music.

8) What technology do you use in order to play music? Do you love the good old vinyl, do you mix with cds, or you are into the late technology like serato, ableton live and other stuff?

Babak: I like vinyl very much. I play with vinyl and cd and don't want to use laptop when djing. Performing live is a whole different thing and the laptop there is most useful. But as far as it concerns djing, I love to play mainly with vinyl.

Jon: You know, in this marriage between Babak and me, I am more into the earlier technology. I use to play with programs like final scratch and that's because I like to have control over the things, I hate carrying stuff, vinyl is very expensive and with all this digital stuff, for me is really convenient. I love to play vinyl, it's a cool medium, but it is inconvenient, at least for me. I also carry cds with me, because 90% of my sets are my own music or something new or something that someone sent me. For example, three days ago, somebody sent me some good stuff and I said 'oh that's cool' and I just burned it on a cd and played it, which is cool and that's not going to happen with vinyl.

9) What are your plans for the future? Do you have something special in mind?

Babak: Actually we are recording the 3rd Soda inc. album right now and I don't know…just making music. Babak Shayan album is coming out, Soda inc. album and a lot of music. Jon runs 2 labels, I ran Shayan music so we have a lot of releases in mind.

10) And as a last question, I would like to know your hobbies.

Jon: Sex (laughs), good food, Greek Food (especially souvlaki!), and of course beautiful women

And you Babak?

Babak: Exactly the same!

Ok guys, thank you very much for the interview and I hope we will meet again and drink some wine!

Jon & Babak: We thank you!

I must let you know, that Jon & Babak are probably the most friendly and happy people I have ever met. We have been talking nearly for one hour but they have given me the feeling that I knew them for years. I hope to see you soon guys. Love from Greece. Aufwiedersehen.

Note from Jon: we had the same pleasure talking to you! Hope to see you again soon!:)

We're hiring! Pesto is looking for instrumentalists

For our current and future productions we are looking for bass players, guitarists and percussionists to coop with. It doesn't really matter where you're based, but you should be able to record your takes on your side in a decent quality and have a broadband connection to the internet in order to upload hi-res files such as WAV or AIFF.

Further requirements are:

- you should be a nice person;)
- you're familiar with the use of email and instant messengers
- your instrument is of decent quality, so is the rest of your equipment. Hum is only acceptable in very small doses
- you feel at home in anything Funk/Soul/Disco (you don't need to wear bellbottoms, okay?)
- you can play just by listening (although we might provide sheets, if requested)
- you're fast in recording your stuff
- you're reliable deadline-wise
- other details have to be negotiated

We're not asking you to do the job for free, money and payment issues will be discussed on a private basis though. We're especially looking for people that are willing and wanting to establish a constant relationship. We cannot offer you recording equipment or hire a studio for you - you need to be able to record the stuff at your place without any extra costs (i.e. studio rent).

We need your help for recordings of our own artists, for the production of sample packs, as well as for remix jobs and even solo releases with your performances are not off the stove.

If this sounds interesting to you, please get in touch via our contact form, supplying your full name, email addy and, if possible a link to a demo of yours. If you have further questions, do not hestitate to ask them.

Looking forward to hear from you:)

I Take You Out To Space - and to #1 on beatport!

The Mulder aka Jon Silva was constantly climbing the beatport charts (read below) and today, finally reached the top position of beatport's DeepHouse charts. We're sorry to say we kicked Jimpster off the #1 position (he's one of our most adored producers) but hey, we also like that news. :)

Meanwhile, Plastic City also released a new single by The Mulder, containing brand new versions and mixes of "I Take You Out To Space" by Cooccer, Jon Silva (umm...yes, you CAN remix yourself, especially if suffering from split personality) and two totally new and previously unreleased tracks. "I Take You Out To Space" was produced back in 2003 and originally released in 2005 - another proof that timeless music never grows old (and that's the philosophy we here at Pesto follow).

Further, Jon Silva's "I Want U" [Pesto 009] is still in the Top100 on

Play020-8: The Mulder - I Take You Out To Space

We just told you about the Mulder's release on Plastic City. Here's the link to the official page accompanying the release. Please find the info text below (quoted from Plastic City's web page):

The track "I Take You Out To Space" was originally released in 2005 - perfect at the time the sound of the nineties was up-to-date again. For Jon Silva, a Plastic City artist from the beginnings, this was a welcome occasion to reactivate his old alias “The Mulder”. This project was founded during the mystery boom in the mid-nineties, started by the the successful TV series “X-Files” among others. Its beginning found this project in the mid-nineties – at that time together with Len Faki- by the idea to set up with samples from X-Files chapters some tracks which are reflecting the panache of this time. The results of this project were the very successful single-releases "The Police" and "The Crab Candidate". This release includes brand new remixes of "I Take you Out To Space" as well as two new tracks.

Jon wasn't lazy meanwhile and made a 2007 version of his smasher "I Take You Out To Space" that was released via Plastic City under his "The Mulder" moniker back in 2003. The tune is part of "Plastic City.Shape", a compilation mixed by "Evil" Eddie Richards, a UK Tech House icon.

The 2007 version of "I Take You Out To Space" by The Mulder has been gaining positions on quickly - it's on #9 of the DeepHouse charts, once more (...*cough*, sounds familiar ;) ...) turning it into the best selling Plastic City release at the moment. (Talking of the "Babe-A-Pella" of Soda Inc.'s "Night Fever" - we just learned that Hernan Cattaneo also loves to play it).

There's also an upcoming release by "The Mulder" on Plastic City in brief containing more remixes of "I Take You Out To Space" (by rising talent "The Cooccer" who will have an album release on Traxx very soon) and two brand new choons! More details will follow when the release is available as an exclusive via and next week.

A message to our friends from Greece

Since I have been playing so many gigs in Greece this and the last years, I wanted to tell you that I followed the news.

The tragedy that was shown on the media is surely just scratching the surface, considering the many casualties the burning forests in Greece had caused. Seeing families lose their homes, the foundations of their existence and above all losing their beloved ones makes me feel really sad. Fires have been harming people and the environment in so many countries I have been visiting this summer, among them Croatia, Montenegro, FYR of Macedonia and many more and two things remain in my mind:

who are those that start the fires in order to "create" new ground to build e.g. hotels and what is their mindset? And why do we have apparently incapable governments that are supposed to end this? I feel ashamed when I read that Germany sent four (yes, that's 4!) helicopters to Greece to help fighting the fires.

Let me tell you that I'm with you on my mind - regardless in which country suffering from this you reside!

Yours, Jon Silva

PS: I'm aware of the fact that is a web site covering music - some things though should not remain unsaid.

Jon Silva @ WAVE Festival

Jon Silva will be playing a gig in Montenegro on the 3rd of August 2007.

The WAVE Festival takes place on the ancient castle of Bar, Montenegro close to the seaside. Other performers that night are Johny (Tunisia) and Stole Popovic (Serbia). The 2nd August, there's Kanda, Kodja & Nebojsha, Parental Advizory, Avatar and DJ Dweerdoe (Montenegro or Crna Gora). On the 4th, you'll hear Exaile (Israel) and Woa (Serbia).

The city of Bar is located on the pittoresque seaside of Montenegro and well worth a visit. Some trivial pursuit: Montenegro is the country in Europe with the largest percentage of national parks within Europe. Wild beauty:)

Jon Silva's "Summer of Remixes" pt. 2

and the remix story continues...

Jon has finally finished his two remixes for Nikola Gala's Escada Music label: Jon delivered both a deeper and slightly tighter mix for Nikola's "Close To You". The "Chalkidiki Day Mix" is perfect for beach bars or sunny car rides while the "Thessaloniki Night Mix" is your pick for clubs. Soundwise, it's not a hard guess that Jon has been inspired by his recent stays in Greece - so look forward to some sunny vibes coming up on Escada by mid August.
In return, we're also proud to announce to have a Nikola Gala remix for the upcoming single of From P60 on Pesto 011.

Another remix Jon had been requested to do already back in May that finally sees the light of the day is for Romania's Christian Paduraru. "Sharing Transparently", originally being a deep Progressive tune turned into a Dub monster after Jon's treatment. Christian seems to be happy because here's what he wrote: "Wow Jon, an inspiring wise use of elements with a hot steady deep groove!!" We're happy you like it, Christian! Jon Silva's P2P mix will come with two more DJ tools.

And a third remix has been done for Clubstar, namely for "Don't Stop" by W.V.P. pres. Mr. Da-Nos. Jon just took the vocals of the original and gave it a completely new Acid/Big Room rework around it. The remix has proven it's floor smashing qualities on the recent gigs on EXIT festival, Greece and at Cologne's Vic Bar. Watch out for this club tune!

Last but not least, there's also a new track by "The Mulder" (yes, that's also Jon) out on Plastic City called "Torque" that's among the best selling tunes on Beatport right now. The track is part of the Plastic city compilation "Play". A digital EP by "The Mulder" is on its way.

Celebrity support for Traxx

We are more than happy to let you know that our first release on Traxx, the brand new Pesto sublabel receives an amazing amount of support.

A lot of DJs (especially those being members of our promo pools) already play out the tune. Now, several top names of the industry show their support for Traxx: Ali Dubfire of Deep Dish (USA) charts Traxx001 on #2 of his Beatport charts, Global Underground artists Pako & Frederik (Netherlands) told us they would hammer the track on their radio shows that are broadcasted on 35 stations worldwide, DJ Meri of Estonia's Rulers of the Deep just sent us a message: "Hell yeah! This track is one of my alltime favorites!!".

More details on Traxx as well as on the upcoming release Traxx002 (did somebody say "Addicted"?) soon.
[update: until now (27th June, 3pm) Traxx001 has reached #25 on Beatport's Techno charts. We take bets on the highest future position..hehe]

Jon Silva's "Night Fever" Remix #1 on Beatport

Shortly after "Night Fever Remixes vol. 2" including remixes by Spin Science, Chris Niteshake, Steve Mill and Jon Silva has been released, Jon's "Babe-A-Pella" storms the sales charts, making his interpretation the best selling Plastic City track on beatport at the moment.

Another fact that is making us proud is that half of Plastic City's sales top ten consists of the various versions of "Night Fever". Thanks to all the supporters and of course the remixers - great job!

Soda Inc. at Dokk, Budapest/Hungary

Oops...we just noticed that we published only a draft (thanks for letting us know!) of this news bulletin - so here's the complete one.

Soda Inc. played an amazing gig in the not less amazing city of Budapest, Hungary.

Two years ago, they already played on an "I love deep" event that took place on top of Budapest in a venue called Citadella Garden. This time, the open air party with the subtitle "Night Fever" raked off on an island located within the Danube river. The venue called "Dokk" is fairly new and truly worth a visit: dancing under the stars on a hot Budapest night, lots of beautiful people and, yes, Deep House music all night long.

There's only one thing left to say: köszi Budapest! Thanks to all you lovely guys who made this possible - you know who you are:)

(the video was shot by Babak Shayan)

Jon Silva's "Summer of Remixes" pt. 1

It's been a long time without any news being posted here so here you are:

Jon has been working on a large number of remix projects for several labels and artists. The first result of the "Summer of Remixes" will be available on Plastic City.

For the second volume of Soda Inc.'s "Night Fever Remixes", Jon joined the circle of Spin Science (Estonia), Chris Niteshake and Steve Mill (both from Greece) and delivers his "Babe-A-Pella", a deep and driving dub mix using only small portions of Jon's original vocals. Make sure you also check out Vol. 1 with remixes by G-Pal (Greece), Morgan Page (USA) and Roberto Bardini (Italy) which is also available on 12".
Volume 2 of the Night Fever Remixes is available from 26th June via and

The next remixes have been requested by the guys from Moscow's Moonbeam Music. Jon made two remixes for "Home" by Moonbeam feat. Julia B:

The "Jon Silva Remix" is pure Jon Silva sound using warm Wurlitzer chords, a fat and funky bassline to create a deep atmosphere that carries Julia's vocals. The "Camouflage Remix" heads towards a darker, more electronic approach. You will also find a Dub of the "Camouflage Remix" without the vocals.
Moonbeam feat. Julia B - "Home" on Moonbeam Digital (MBD009) will be out on July 2nd.

Also from Russia comes the digital label Deepology, run by the guys that also form the "Luckystars" team (Conya). Jon was asked to remix Seva K's "Zero Gravity" and came up with his "Orbit Funk Mix", a fusion of classic House and Funk sounds with an electronic topping or, well, just "Orbit Funk", as Jon calls it.
Seva K - "Zero Gravity" on Deepology Digital (DD007) will be out by end of July 2007.

More remixes have been requested by other artists and labels, we will keep you posted about the progress in pt. 2 of our news bulletin that will be published soon.

Jon Silva's PestoMix: you decide which style!

The upcoming PestoMix is due to be made soon. It will be compiled and mixed by Pestolero Jon Silva.

Please see the respective thread here - feel free to browse the forum and discover DJ mixes that friends of Pesto have posted there.

Pesto 009: I Want U by Jon Silva

The promos have been sent out some days ago and we already got loads of lovely feedback!

This release has been long awaited as one version was already featured on the Bar1 mix compilation on Shayan Music among some other CD compilations.
We have smashing remixes by Claus Casper (from Cologne's S-Sentials who also remixed Soda Inc.'s "Full Moon" (Jon Silva is also one of the masterminds behind Soda Inc.)) and Kellyyss, our good friend and "engineer for the deeper sound", as he's often referred to.

For those who already know the Bar1 version, we offer a radio edit of that one and will make the very original mix (back from 2003 - you see? Good music doesn't grow old, it just matures like a good wine) available as the next Pesto Freebee. Our friends on already got the 128kBits file, the Pesto Freebee of this one will be at 320kBit as always, though. If you are registered with, make sure to become friends with us in case you haven't yet!

Accompanying the new release, you'll get the full package that you expect from Pesto including a new PestoMix (that will be mixed by Jon himself, of course) and a new PestoCast featuring Pesto 009.

Expect more details here next week.

I like to move it, move it!

No news for such a long time - there must be a special matter!?

True indeed, there is: just lately, the Pesto Music headquarters have moved. We're still located in Cologne but moved closer to the city now. More details will follow soon, including our new postal address.

To all those who worried: yes, we're all fine and the show will go on!

Expect a bunch of news bulletins by end of next week when the dust has settled over here.

Greetings from your Pesto crew!

There IS something going on!

Remember when we said there was something going on back in February this year? Here's one of the reasons you have been reading so little on this page recently.

Finally, Traxx, a sublabel of Pesto has been launched just today. Traxx is a label dedicated to DJ tools, more techy stuff and progressive club choons.

The motto of Traxx is "Traxxx, not songs". The first release will be "Traxx" by "Traxx" (what a statement, eh?) and the promos are available to a selected circle of DJs from today. We already got some hot feedback in, so expect a lot to happen on Traxx.

Visit the Traxx home page and the myspace profile.

Jon Silva in Maroc

Tomorrow, on Friday the 13th (oh yes!), Jon Silva will be playing his very first gig on the african continent.

This Jon Silva gig is presented in cooperation with Casa Booking, Casblanca.

Simone de Nauw - Luv (Pesto 008) enters the beatport House charts!

We are more than proud and happy to announce that Simone's single "Luv" just entered the beatport House charts.

Currently, the "Be There Dub" is on #93 and we hope you will help us to make it gain more chart positions and have the other mixes enter the genre charts, as well. So far, thanks to all people that supported our actual release Pesto 008 "Luv" by Simone de Nauw.

Soda Inc. gig @ Omilos, Thessaloniki

As much as we heard that Soda Inc. loves to play gigs, this is one to look out for in particular. The greek audience seems to dig the Soda Inc. stuff, resulting in heavy airplay on nearly any FM that plays dance music, on TV shows and in the bars and clubs of whole Greece, of course.

So recently, one could say that Greece fell in love with "Night Fever", the smashing Soda Inc. hit that's a reinterpretation of the old Motown classic "You Keep Me Hanging On", also known from a cover version by Kim Wilde from back in the 1980ies.

As we just heard, this love is mutual and Soda Inc. aka Babak Shayan and Jon Silva are looking forward to meet old & new friends at Omilos, Thessaloniki on Sunday, the 25th March.

Thanks to our mate Elias Tzikas who brought Soda Inc. over, we will see the "northern Greece/Germany reunion" with Elias himself, of course, Steve Mill (who just did an amazing dub mix of "Night Fever") and Nikos Ploumis providing local DJ support and the crews from Low Profile Booking and the La Palma club in Kozani. Too bad that our Pestolero Chris Niteshake won't make it to Thessaloniki - we'll miss you & have a drink on your behalf.

If you are looking for a decent party on Sunday, don't miss it! If you're allergic to or feel offended by one of the following words, stay away: alcohol, malaka, mounaki, Soda Inc. Please also note the sponsor of that party. ;)

Last weekend, L.A.'s Deep venue had Jay-J behind the decks. As Ricardo Torres was shooting with his cam, he caught Jay-J playing Jon Silva's Parapella of Roland Clark's "Deep In House" on Raisani Records.

Apparently, both Jay-J and the crowd enjoyed. ;)

Poll: text advertisement on - yes or no?

Today, we want to hear your opinion on a delicate topic.

We are intending to put Google Adwords on our pages in order to get the costs for server capacity, bandwidth (traffic), etc. sorted and paid. There are several options we have been checking out including Adwords (that would be small text ads in our sidebar) or a Paypal "Donate" button.

The best way to support your favourite label is, of course, buying the music and some merchandising stuff. But some of you might feel to improve their Karma and this can be easily done with this. So here's what we want to know from you.

Save our internet radio - follow up

Refering to our news bulletin from yesterday, Peter Krin of has interviewed Tim Westergren, founder of Pandora. Pandora is an internet radio station that adopts to your personal taste and musical preferences and by analyzing what you like or dislike suggests new music to you that might be of interest, as well.

The interview gives quite some insight on the actual debate RIAA vs. the audience. The article also offers links to more background information on that issue.

Interview with Tim Westergren on createdigitalmusic

US citizens: Save our internet radio!

"On March 1, 2007 the US Copyright Office stunned the Internet radio industry by releasing a ruling on performance royalty fees that are based exclusively on the number of people tuned into an Internet radio station, rather than on a portion of the station’s revenue. They discarded all evidence presented by webcasters about the potentially crippling effect on the industry of such a rate structure, and rubber-stamped the rates requested by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).

Under this royalty structure, an Internet radio station with an average listenership of 1000 people would owe $134,000 in royalties during 2007 - plus $98,000 in back payments for 2006. In 2008 they would owe $171,000, and $220,000 in 2009.

There is no way for a station with 1000 listeners to make that kind of money. That’s over $11 per listener per month in 2007. No Internet radio station currently operating comes even close to that kind of income. Also keep in mind that 1000 listeners is not a large number. Popular stations like Radio Paradise, SOMA, Digitally Imported, radioio, etc have many times that many listeners."

What does that mean? We think, the RIAA is actively seeking to kick indie radios off the market (or have them move to Cayman Islands). The only stations that will afford the rates requested are the major players, the stations that pollute you with Top40 crap and "the greatest hits of the 80ies and 90ies" already. Do we need that? Definitely not!

If you live in the USA, act up and make your voice heard: write to your congress representative. There are more options, so make sure you visit Save our Internet Radio and follow the links there. Other links related to this topic:

Soda Inc. DJ gig at La Rocca, Düsseldorf

Tomorrow, on Saturday the 17th of March, we will see (and hear, of course) a Soda Inc. DJ set in Düsseldorf (that's the town next to Cologne...hehehe) at the La Rocca venue.

As some of you might already know, Soda Inc. is formed by Pestoleros Babak Shayan and Jon Silva and they created quite some buzz with their albums "Full Moon" (2005) and "Inner Vision" (2006) on Plastic City. Their album from last year also contains "Night Fever", the hommage to the old Motown classic "You keep me hanging on" with which Kim Wilde scored a major hit back in the 1980ies. "Night Fever" has seen quite some radio airplay in Greece, Turkey, the whole Balkany, France, Spain and the UK.

If you're living nearby, you should make sure to party with Soda Inc. - their gigs are rare as the guys are busy working on new projects (we will give you detailed information on that one in brief).

Bad Boy Babak

As we were checking back which stores started selling our releases already, we found something interesting on iTunes. Babak Shayan's "Azadi" (Pesto 005) was rated "explicit".

We are further investigating what made the iTunes team come to this conclusion and will keep you updated. Our guess, regardless of the reason is: the reason will be pretty funny. Maybe "Jussi ate too much Acid Remix" stroke them a little as some of the staff felt remembered of bad trips back in the 1970ies. Hee hee.

DJ feedback on Pesto 008: Simone de Nauw - Luv

As we're heading towards the release of Pesto 008 Simone de Nauw - "Luv", we want to share the immense feedback with you. Jocks out there have started to play "Luv" and totally freak out about the release.

Here's the feedback (by alphabetical order):

Agent Greg, Greece:
I just adore the original mix and the "Be There Dub"! Excellent release!!!!

Alex Flatner (Circle Music):
without no doubt the original mix is the best for me... very catchy and a great track to remember on the has such a great vibe with the voice, that the voice and the beats you think are really ONE ...Great Release on Pesto and for me till yet the best !

Andreas Hansson, Sweden:
This is a great track one of my favorites at the moment and i think i will play it for a long time. Favorite mixes is the orignal and catchbass remix.

Big Al (Readymix Records), Canada:
Thanks for the promo. I absolutly love Be There Dub and El Farouki's Dub and Club Mix #1 instrumental and since I am not a big vocal guy myself, I also wish you had the Original Mix without the Vocals. Anyway, thanks for this. I love your sound. It's in my bag. [note: we will have that on the final release, fyi)

Chris Niteshake (Locked Groove), Greece:
I think the original track is a stormer. Simone De Nauw has a really beautiful voice I would definitely hear any track from now on from this lady! Now, the remixes are tough. Hard to choose from. Jon Silva did good work on the club mix (version 1). The Spin Science remix is a fantastic atmospheric production. El Farouki doing also a good work embedding his unique style in his remix, I prefer his dub. Electrique mix is for the electro house fans out there. And the "Luvelectro" is 808 action in his finest! Original - Silva - Spin Science - Luvelectro in my bag!

Christian (C&M Productions), Switzerland:
many thanks for the promos!!!!! great release the 008!!!!

Da Funk (Acryl), Switzerland:
what a release here for pesto!!! the original is such a great piece of music! wonderful harmonies, melodies and a badass bassline! killer track! the spin science and the catchbass mix are also pretty ace! great job!

Dana Bergquist (Symphonic, Pryda), Sweden:
Absolutely amazing, this you might have track of the year already!! Hard too choose best mix out of them, I like them all especially Original, Spin Science (all mixes) and Electrique Instrumental. Can't express it enough, simply beautiful, makes me have hopes for the house scene in this all too minimal climate we're in nowadays.

DJ E360° (Sysex Records), USA:
I think all the tracks are quality. Definitely getting plays in all my sets @ WMC in a few weeks. I have also played it over the weekend and got good reaction to the Club Mix 1. The vocals are hot.

DJ Linus (Exun), Germany:
absolute the best pesto release ever! my favs are "be there dub" and "electrique remix"! will play them every weekend @ Pacha. full support guranteed

Franco Martinelli (, Italy:
Very nice release, this fresh vocal-house track is served in several remixes to please all the dancefloors. I prefer the more housey Spin Science Remix and Be There Dub .

Funk Manouver (Reelgroove/D6), Scotland:
Nice package with a few different options. Liking the 'be there dub' best, love the stab and the vox sits sweetly on it. Good job!

Gabriel Sordo (Underground Lessons, Somuns Corp.), Mexico:
Fantastic release!

Henri Kohn (A&R Clubstar, Conya), schäl sick:
my fav is still the original though Catchbass, Spin Science's, Club Mix #2 and El's Dub are also cool

Jay Serano (, Netherlands:
As I'm only playing at cocktail bars, pool parties, vip lounges, chillout clubs and the likes.. This track is already locked in my set. Played it last saturday at The Mansion Amsterdam and got a great crowd response! Thanks for sending me the promo and keep up the good work!

Jeff Bennett, Sweden:
Luvelectro is the one for me, nice one.

Jerry Kaye, USA:
loving the original... nice and groovy. also like the spin science remix..Great release guys!

This is end of part one. The other reactions will follow in brief. ;)

Ricardo Torres supports Pesto

Talking of the buzz that Pete Gust's remix of Rucyl's "Love In War" caused (read the post below), we already found a supporter from the West Coast - our good friend and California Pestolero Ricardo Torres!

He's got a new mix online that starts with "Love In War". You can find his latest DJ mix named "Looking West" (so are we...hehehe) in the mixes section on Ricardo's web site.

Ricardo was also invited to play alongside his personal hero and very good friend Jay-J on the Shifted label party at Miami's Winter Music Conference this year. People attending WMC this year should make sure to check out his set and the ones of the other House icons on Saturday, the 24th of March at Miami's Bash. Besides Jay-J and Ricardo Torres, the line up also offers Chicago's Marc Grant, Heather, Random Soul from Australia and some other surprises.

Also make sure to check out the latest West Coast Collective mix on Shameless Sessions (SSRadio UK) featuring Kevin Christopher and Ricardo Torres. The show also includes an exclusive interview with Pestolera Sandra Lima who will have "Higher" released on Pesto soon.

Rucyl signed to Pesto

We are very proud to announce that we managed to sign another incredibly talented artist to the Pesto roster.

New York City based Rucyl Mills would be considered a songwriter or storyteller. Her lyrics are intimate and pure, carried by the voice of an angel. She has proven on several occasions that she is a professionally working performer. Next to releases on her own label, her resume lists vocal backups and performances as well as songwriting jobs.

She recently teamed up with no less talented producer Pete Gust from Stockholm, Sweden who just made an amazing remix of "Love In War". We are more than glad to offer you an outstanding release for this autumn including both the original and Pete's remix of which the latter already received tremendous feedback among DeepHouse lovers.

More information on Rucyl and Pete Gust will be published alongside the release of "Love In War" - so long, please make sure to check the following links:

Did anybody say "mashup"?

Or "web 2.0" or another buzzword of your choice?

Well, we've just been mashed up (sounds like you just got punk'd, no?) or at least just discovered it happened. In a truly global world, Ehsan, a DJ from Canada took Babak Shayan's "Azadi" and made his own remix. Check it out here.

If you were about to do a mashup with some Pesto stuff, which one would you choose? Leave a comment (including a link to your mashup MP3).

[update: and yes, Ehsan bought it on - good boy!]

Newsletter back online

Those among you that visited our former website will surely remember our newsletter sign-up box.

The functionality is back, but we tweaked it a little. Please see our PestoNews subscription manager. Today, we also sent out the first issue of our newsletter, so check your inbox in case you're subscribed. We will take the chance and ask for some feedback here:

There's something going on...

There must be a reason for we are posting the logo of another label here on the Pesto web pages. What reason could that be?

Did anybody say something was going on behind the scenes? Will Pesto be closed down, shortly after the digital rebirth? Will it be renamed to traxx? If so, why would we?

Hmmm...expand your mind. More details to follow soon!
